In Rob Font's post-fight interview after his unanimous decision victory over Kyler Phillips at UFC Vegas on October 19th, 2024, he reflected on the major changes he made leading up to the fight, his strategy, and his determination to prove himself after two consecutive losses.
Rob discussed his preparation, noting the significance of switching camps and spending his summer training in Montreal. "It was a whole new camp... they took me in and they opened the red carpet for me," he said, emphasizing the support he received from the team in Montreal, including the role of coach Firas Zahabi.
When asked about his strategy, Font said they were prepared for Phillips’ speed and takedown attempts, and he felt he had the edge in boxing: "I knew he was going to be kicking a lot... I just had to be a little smarter than him." Font was confident in his game plan, acknowledging the grueling nature of his training: "This camp was hell... we just grinding and grinding and grinding."
Font also expressed his determination to stay relevant despite setbacks, referencing the pressure that comes with losses. "People forget that I am fighting the best guys out there... I just got to get consistent, I got to win the bigger fights though," he remarked, determined to keep competing at the highest level in the UFC.
He ended on a positive note, saying he would take a week off to recover before returning to training, aiming for consistency and more wins in the future.
